Tomorrow’s BIM Coordinator

This position is an integral part of the design and construction team that coordinates the process of generating digital models and integrated data often referred to as “Information” about a project, from the design to the delivery stage.

The BIM Coordinator is responsible for the BIM workflow and ensuring that any potential issues during modeling, clash detection, and data conversion is dealt with efficiently. In general, the BIM Coordinator is in charge of implementing project-specific guidelines for project managers, designers, engineers and technicians, and for linking information across disciplines following the BIM Manager’s BIM Execution Plan, standards, and directives.

This role provides a base level for multiple career paths, most likely toward BIM Manager if the individual wishes to progress in the industry.

About 330h of in-class learning and 150h of workshops over a 9 month program.

What Will You Learn?

  • Coordinate BIM development, standards, data requirements, etc. as required by the BIM Manager.
  • Provide technical support and mentoring to the project team with BIM tools.
  • Manage and develop BIM content.
  • Communicate effectively and offer cross-team support.
  • Administer and maintain daily model management.
  • Coordinate clash detection, resolution activities and participate in BIM collaboration meetings.
  • Assist with integration of 3D models into 4D model-based simulation to optimize scheduling.
  • Support 5D model-based cost estimating efforts to preconstruction.
  • Oversee supplemental field construction documents for superintendents, project managers, and for people to improve field performance.
  • Work as part of a project team to achieve consistent results.

BIM Coordinator Course Requirement

Building Industry Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in the building industry,
  • or a minimum of 3 years of experience in the building industry
BIM Experience
    • BIM Modeler certification and six-month internship,
    • or 3 years as a BIM Modeler in a design, engineering and construction field

→ validated by an aptitude test.
