Tomorrow’s BIM Leaders

The title of BIM Manager is a particularly ambiguous one. There are two kinds of BIM Managers in our industry today: the BIM Project Manager and the BIM Manager Specialist.

The BIM Manager Specialist is the initiator and manager of all BIM projects within an organization. This position drafts policies and strategies, determines a company’s criteria for taking on BIM-oriented projects, implements necessary processes and systems, and maintains communication between cooperating parties. The BIM Manager Specialist also facilitates staff education and assigns tasks, responsibilities, and authorizations concerning BIM.

The BIM Manager Specialist is closely linked to, and continually communicates with project leaders, the BIM Director*, and key staff of cooperating parties. He may also have to manage a team of BIM Coordinators and BIM Technicians.

*A BIM Director is a senior BIM Manager, managing a team of BIM Managers usually within a large firm with multiple office locations.
